I was over this party the minute I walked in. It’s too crowded to even move. Booze, weed, and body odor linger in the air thanks to poor ventilation and the AC not working. My plans for getting in the pool are ruined, too, when someone vomits in the water. Grossly enough, that doesn’t stop some of my intoxicated classmates from diving in. One even spits pool water into the air, which he’ll probably regret in the morning.

Thankfully, Lucy is able to find us two chairs. Andrew and Chase are off playing beer pong, which I’m glad for.

Lucy fans herself. “If I had known this was going to happen, I would have suggested staying home.”

“Same, girl. Same.”

“When Andrew is done with his game, I’m going to tell him I want to leave. Would you be interested in going to his place and playing board games? They have an awesome collection.”

My stomach churns, as it does every time I think of Andrew’s house, and shake my head. “King’s picking me up and we’re going to hang out tonight.”

She snorts. “I’ll definitely make sure we’re out of your hair, then. You can have the place all to yourself.”

“What? Don’t want to see him walking around naked again?”

“I don’t want Andrew to get a complex if he sees him naked. King is… a prime specimen, that’s for sure.”

We both giggle as Chase comes up with two cups.

“Ladies.” He hands us each a red cup. “What’s so funny?”

“Oh, just girl stuff.” Lucy takes a sip and makes a face. “What is this?”

“Trashcan punch.”

“I really hope they used a clean trashcan!”

Chase watches me, ignoring Lucy. “Not thirsty?”

“I’m not much of a drinker.”

I swear to god he looks angry for a moment before saying, “Let me grab you a water then, since I didn’t get it right the first time.”

He all but storms off.

Good fucking riddance!

Lucy finishes off her drink and reaches for mine. “I’ll drink yours.”

“Have at it.” I glance at my phone. “I’m going to bail before he gets back. King should be here by now anyway.”

“Run away, girl. Run. I’m going to find Andrew.”

“Text me when you get to Andrew’s.”

“I will. Text me when you get home.”

I give her a quick hug before going to the gate on the side of the house. It’s safer this way, and there’s less chance of running into Chase. I know King said I should still go to dinner with Chase, but that little nagging voice in the back of my head keeps telling me it’s a bad idea. I mean, why did he get so mad when I said I didn’t want to drink? I’ve told him numerous times that I don’t consume alcohol. He should just leave it at that.

I’m so worked up by the time I get out front that I want to hit something. The street is cluttered and it’s going to be hard to find King. And then I see him – Razor – sitting on his bike across the street.

“Hey, sugar,” he greets.
